The Old Rectory Lanreath

As a family, we fell in love with The Old Rectory on our very first visit.  We have not been disappointed.

Our move from Leicestershire took place in early September 2004, and the village welcomed us immediately.  By Christmas, the house felt like home, and we had many new friends.  We joined the village as it united in an attempt to save our fabulous village school, with my children involved in the invasion of Islington which you may have seen in the BBC 2 documentary 'Power to the People' in May 2007.  Sadly our efforts failed, but the sense of Community here is stronger for the effort and we are justly proud of our village, our shop and our way of life.  Visit www.lanreath.com for more information.

Chris and I chose to slow the pace of our lives in order to spend more time with our three children and enjoy them growing up.  My previous employment in the Health Service had meant long and unpredictable hours, with high stress levels for us all. Chris had a regular 9-5.30pm job in the Computer Industry and is now enjoying the autonomy of being self-employed.   I recently returned to work part-time, leaving me time to spend working on and enjoying this fabulous location.

We have three children aged 12, 9 and 5.  They have settled well into Cornish life and love being near the sea and the many opportunities available to them here.  They are all enjoying school; either secondary school in Looe, or primary in Duloe, some 6 miles away along traditional Cornish lanes, now that the village primary school has closed.

I have been fortunate in having the opportunity to learn new skills since our arrival here and have attended many interesting courses including Welcome Host International, a web design course, a German language  introductory course and a bookkeeping course.  I now possess new skills which I enjoy using.  This website is testimonial to one of the courses and Chris's prowess in dealing with my technical glitches!  I have also completed the BTEC level 2 Sustainable Tourism Certificate, and am striving to make The Old Rectory as carbon neutral as possible.

Our backgrounds allow us to appreciate the stresses of modern day living and the need to relax and recharge at least once annually.  We believe The Old Rectory provides the perfect environment to do just that.  We are striving to improve the already excellent apartments and gardens for our visitors to enjoy.  We hope you will leave here having experienced a perfect holiday and will want to return, as many do, for another visit.

I am also delighted to report that our beautiful gardens were runner up in the commercial garden category of Caradon In Bloom 2006.

For those of you who enjoy theatre, our eldest daughter will be appearing in the Stert's production of Oliver over the summer - I expect to see the show more than once!

Happy Holidays!
